Ahimsa Silk Stole with Jamdani ( over weft) weaving designs in Muga silk
Ahimsa silk or Eri silk is also known as peace silk. Eri silk is produced by the domesticated silkworm, Philosamia ricini. The silkworms naturally leave the cocoons before the silk is harvested
Muga silk, used for the decorations, is a variety of wild silk originally from the state of Assam in India. The silk is known for its extreme durability and has a natural yellowish-golden tint with a shimmering, glossy texture. It was previously reserved for the use of royalty.
The decorations on this stole are not embroidered afterwards but rather a part of the weaving process. It is called Jamdani weaving and originated in Bengal
